Both on and off the field, a lot happened in Sri Lankan cricket over the past week...

Digital Desk: Former captain of Sri Lanka Arjuna Ranatunga has blasted Jay Shah, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), for destroying Sri Lankan cricket, following their disastrous performance in the 2023 ODI World Cup.

“Because of the connection between SLC officials and Jay Shah they (the BCCI) are under the impression that they can trample and control SLC,” Arjuna Ranatunga stated.

He further stated, “Jay Shah is running Sri Lanka Cricket. SLC is being ruined because of pressure from Jay Shah. One man in India is ruining Sri Lankan cricket. And he is only powerful because of his father, who is India’s home Minister.”

Both on and off the field, a lot happened in Sri Lankan cricket over the past week.

Sri Lanka did not make it into the 2025 Champions Trophy after finishing ninth in the points rankings.

A day after the SLC board was dismissed by Roshan Ranasinghe, Sri Lanka's minister of sports Arjuna Ranatunga chaired an interim committee. However, a day later, a 14-day stay order on the dissolution of the board was issued by the courts, thereby restoring the board.

A few days later, the ICC suspended the cricket board with immediate effect due to significant government meddling in the board's management.
