It may be mentioned that Monkeypox is a viral zoonose with symptoms that are remarkably similar to those seen in smallpox patients in the past; however, it is less severe clinically.

Digital Desk: A health alert has been declared in Bangladesh to control the ongoing outbreak of monkeypox across the world. However, there have been no cases reported in the country. "No monkeypox cases have been detected in Bangladesh, but we have issued the announcement to check any possibility." a health ministry official from the country said.

According to the official, the first step will be to screen all incoming passengers for monkeypox in countries where cases have been found. In the meantime, the World Health Organization (WHO) has confirmed 80 cases of monkeypox in 11 countries, and experts are attempting to determine the scope and cause of the outbreak.

On Friday, the World Health Organization said that the virus is endemic in some animal populations in many nations, resulting in epidemics among locals and visitors.

WHO also warned that stigmatising people based on their sickness is "never acceptable." "It can be a barrier to resolving an outbreak since it may deter people from seeking medical help, resulting in the undetected spread," the report continued.

Monkeypox is endemic in Benin, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Gabon, Ghana (only in animals), Ivory Coast, Liberia, Nigeria, the Republic of the Congo, Sierra Leone, and South Sudan, according to the World Health Organization.

Monkeypox takes 6 to 13 days to incubate, although it can take anywhere from 5 to 21 days.
