Assam has been placed on high following intense rainfall in neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh, raising concerns of significant downstream flooding across several districts. Meteorological reports indicate that the Yazali area in Arunachal Pradesh's Lower Subansiri district recorded a substantial 72.8 mm of rainfall over the past 24 hours, leading to a sharp increase in river discharge and flash floods in the upper catchment areas.
Officials in Assam have moved swiftly, activating all relevant agencies to monitor the situation closely. A substantial rise in water levels and flow velocity is now expected in downstream districts including Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, and Sonitpur. The anticipated flood wave is projected to move further downstream over the next one to two days, potentially impacting more areas.
In response to the escalating concerns, emergency response teams, including the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), have been put on standby. District administrations in the vulnerable regions have received directives to intensify monitoring efforts and prepare for any eventuality.
