Digital Desk: Prominent young journalist from Assam, Hemanta Sarma, has received good news regarding his latest short film, Omnipresent – A Story. Following the success of his first short film To-Let, which was selected for multiple international film festivals and won awards, this new film is based on a challenging and highly sensitive subject matter.
Produced under the banner of Focus Media, Hemanta Sarma has written the story, screenplay, dialogues, and directed the film himself.
According to the director, the story of Omnipresent – A Story is a unique narrative told from the perspective of a plastic bag. In a symbolic manner, the plastic bag journeys through different parts of a metropolitan city. Along this journey, the bag becomes a silent witness to human irresponsibility, negligence, and lack of accountability.
However, this silent, invisible presence is not a blessing for us but rather a toxic shadow.
The film attempts to reflect a social and environmental crisis through the lens of a plastic bag, essentially showing how such a bag can cause harm to us. The film was shot at various locations around Guwahati by cinematographer Jnan Gautam, with assistant cinematography by Sirajul Ali.
Editing was done by Manas Kashyap, Background music-mixing and mastering by Ovijeet Das, lighting and production design by Shankar Dutta, and still photography by Pallab Mahanta.
The cast includes Dhruva Prasad Bora, Niharika Nath, Pranavi Mahanta, Dhiraj Das, Garima Das, among others. The film is currently in the editing stage and is expected to complete censor certification this month before being sent to various film festivals, as shared by the director.
