Digital Desk: For the first time, Pakistan Army has promoted a Hindu officer, Kelash Kumar, to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, reports said. Kumar, who hails from Sindh province, is the first from a  hindu minority community to hold a position of officer in Pakistan Army. In 2019, he became Pakistan's first Hindu Major and was assigned to the Ministry of Defense. Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Fawad Chaudhry, congratulated Kelash Kumar on his promotion via Twitter. Kumar's rank was promoted from major to lieutenant colonel during the promotion boards. After graduating from the Pakistan Military Academy, he was posted to the army's medical corps. According to Daily Pakistan, Kumar completed his MBBS at LUHMS Jamshoro in Hyderabad and was then commissioned in the Pakistan army. He was a Captain in the medical corps before his promotion to Major. He is also the first Hindu officer to be accepted into the University Hospital of Birmingham's emergency medicine residency programme. Notably, he has served residents in Pakistan's remote areas through free medical camps, including Tharparkar, Gilgit-Baltistan, and the Hunza Valley. For spending 36 days at the world's highest post saddle in the Baltoro sector near K2, at the height of around 22,000 feet, he was honoured with the Tamaga-e-Dafa (A Siachen Medal). Moreover, for his efforts in combating terrorism, he was also awarded Tamga-e-Baqa and Tamga-e-Azam.
