Heavy Rainfall before the start of India's warm-up match against England, forced the start to be delayed...

Digital Desk: Heavy thunderstorms in Guwahati on Saturday delayed India's ICC Cricket World Cup warm-up match against England.

Heavy rain battered Guwahati after India skipper Rohit Sharma chose to bat first in humid circumstances, prompting groundstaff to immediately cover the pitch.

In addition, a standee placed in front of the media box sustained significant damage providing insight into the severity of the intense rainstorm.

The chairs in the galleries were sopping wet from the rain.

However, the groundstaff deserves credit for moving quickly to ensure that the majority of the playing surface was covered.

Guwahati has been assigned four World Cup warm-up games, the first of which was played on Friday between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, which the latter easily won.

Previously, it was believed that Guwahati would host at least two World Cup matches, but due to factors such as the location of the press box, it will have to settle for warm-up games.

However, cricket fans in the state have expressed their enthusiasm to see these warm-ups, and administrators from the Assam Cricket Academy (ACA) have said that all 38000 tickets have been sold.
