Digital Desk: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for widespread rainfall and thunderstorms across several regions of India, with a particular focus on the northeastern states. Recent satellite imagery has detected convective clouds, signaling the likelihood of substantial precipitation in these areas.

Assam and Meghalaya are expected to experience intense spells of rain accompanied by isolated thunderstorms, cloud-to-ground lightning, and gusty winds. Similarly, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura should brace for light to moderate rainfall, as per IMD forecasts.

IMD scientist Soma Sen has emphasized that heavy rainfall is expected to persist over the coming days in the northeastern states. An orange alert has been issued specifically for Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, indicating the potential for extremely heavy rainfall in these regions.

This weather advisory follows significant rainfall in Delhi, where the capital witnessed its highest June precipitation in 88 years, recording 228 mm within 24 hours. This event has heightened vigilance nationwide for similar weather patterns.

Authorities and residents in the northeast are advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions, as heavy rainfall can lead to flooding and other weather-related hazards. The IMD continues to closely monitor the situation, providing regular updates as weather conditions evolve.
