Digital Desk: In a significant move, the Assam government has issued strict directives aimed at denying the practice of government doctors working at private health institutions during their designated duty hours.

The directive conveyed through a letter from the Assam Government’s Medical Education and Research Department to the Health and Family Welfare Department, outlines a series of instructions to enforce compliance.

Key directives include instructing the Director of Health Services, Assam, to ensure that private health institutions registered under the Clinical Establishment Act do not allow government doctors to practice during their official duty hours. The Joint Director of Health Services is tasked with conducting regular inspections of these establishments to monitor adherence to the regulations.

The responsibility for compliance rests squarely on the private hospitals and nursing homes. Any violations discovered during inspections will result in appropriate legal actions as stipulated by law. Moreover, the Health and Family Welfare Department is required to submit monthly reports detailing inspections and recommending actions against non-compliant establishments.

This initiative underscores the Assam government's commitment to improving healthcare delivery by ensuring that government doctors focus entirely on their public service responsibilities during allocated work hours. It aims to enhance accountability and optimize medical resources in the state's healthcare system.
