The incident occurred on Friday night while the young girl and her mother were riding in a rickshaw from Kaliyar to Roorkee, according to the police. According to a senior police official, they later got a ride from a known individual who was driving others along the Kaliyar-Roorkee road.

An officer who asked to remain anonymous said, "The suspects gang-raped the mother-daughter pair before dropping them off in a remote area close to the Ganga Canal stretch and driving off."

Around 10.30 p.m., the event happened, and the police were notified one hour later. Another police officer, who also asked not to be named, claimed that the girl's mother begs for money and lives in a shelter.

According to Dobhal, a case was filed at the Civil Lines police station in Roorkee on Saturday against unidentified persons in accordance with relevant parts of the Protection of Children against Sexual Offenses (Pocso) Act and section 376 of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with rape.

According to Yogender Singh Rawat, senior superintendent of police in Haridwar, the girl's mother is in shock and was unable to provide information on the number of accused who were involved in the crime. She has, however, identified the known defendant.
