New Delhi: The Indian National Congress (INC) will get its new party president by September 2022, informed Congress’ Central Election Authority president Madhusudan Mistry on Wednesday.
Currently, the party is headed by interim president Sonia Gandhi, after her son, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi resigned from the position in July 2019 following the party’s defeat in the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
Misty said, “As per timeframe set by the Congress Working Committee, the election procedure for Congress president will be finished by the end of September 2022.”

Moreover, Misty added that the membership campaign has been in full gear and all the procedures will be concluded by March 31 next year. He also mentioned that a digital membership campaign was underway.
“After March, the election process will begin at the primary level, such as block, district, and state, with the election process for the position of party president finished by September,” says Mistry.
When asked about the election of members to the Congress Working Committee (CWC), Mistry stated that the working committee would decide on the matter and inform the Central Election Authority of its conclusion.
23 Congress leaders had written to Sonia Gandhi, requesting the organizational change, including elections for the CWC President and members and the party’s parliamentary board.
