Digital Desk: Star India batter Virat Kohli on Sunday ended his century drought in Test cricket as he slammed an elusive 28th tonne in the format on Day 4 of the ongoing fourth Test against Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. It took Kohli 241 deliveries to reach triple figures in a day-night Test against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on November 22, 2019, when he last hit a Test century. India is in a commanding position in the game owing to Kohli's 75th international century.
After losing overnight batsman Ravindra Jadeja for 28, India earlier managed just 73 runs in 32 overs of the morning session.
With his previous best score of 79 in South Africa in January 2022, Kohli scored above 80 for the first time since his Test ton drought.
Nathan Lyon and Todd Murphy, who bowled for the whole of the morning session, maintained pressure as a consistent spin attack was met by cautious starts from Kohli and the left-handed Jadeja.
Throughout much of his knock, Jadeja played defense before abruptly deciding to attack Murphy. The last ball he chipped to mid-on to get caught ended his five-ball adventure.
With wicketkeeper Srikar Bharat, who was brought in when Shreyas Iyer went for scans after complaining of lower back stiffness after day three of play, Kohli continued the grind.
In a perfect 53-run partnership with Kohli, Bharat was on 25.
