Sheikh Khalifa died on Friday at 73 after a long illness.  He was the eldest son of the founding President of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.


Digital Desk: India declared one day of state mourning on Saturday following the death of  UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.


A notification released by the Union Home Ministry to all states and union territories on Friday stated that the Government of India has decided to declare one day of state mourning on May 14 as a token of respect for the departed dignitary.


Further, the notification stated that the national flag would be flown at half-mast in all places where it is flown regularly on the day of mourning. Moreover, there will be no official festivities.

From November 3, 2004, he was the President of the UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi. He was elected to succeed his father, the UAE's first president, who served from 1971 until his death on November 2, 2004.
