Digital Desk: The White House stated that India is an important vaccine manufacturer for the world, recognizing the country's vital role in supplying vaccines against Covid-19 globally.
"Because of its amazing manufacturing capability, India has been a big exporter of vaccines," said White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator Dr Ashish Jha at a press conference.
In response to a query, Dr Jha stated that the Joe Biden administration valued the QUAD cooperation on coronavirus, which is a strategic security dialogue between Australia, India, Japan, and the US.
"I believe India is an essential manufacturer of vaccines for the rest of the globe. I mean, not just for India itself, but this is a really important thing," he added at the White House press conference.
Defending the Biden administration's choice to distribute vaccinations throughout the world, Dr Jha said that the US will continue to make them available to all low and middle-income countries.
"There are roughly 100 nations that are eligible for free vaccines through COVAX – where we donate the vaccines that are still available for donation," he stated. Dr Jha claimed that every major variant that hit the US originated from outside the country." So, the idea that we can somehow isolate ourselves and not be touched by what's going on in the rest of the globe is just naive," he said.
"It's just not how diseases like these spread. So, even if you think at it from a very limited self-interest perspective, it's critical that we get much of the world vaccinated, that we help build out the kind of vaccination program. But, you know, America is a country that has deeply engaged in the world," he added.
Dr. Jha asserted that Biden has "reestablished American leadership on global health in a completely different way than the last President."
"So, for a variety of reasons, it's critical that America continues to lead, and $4.02 billion is a small investment to make to better defend Americans and the world," he stated.
