Digital Desk: The Indian Navy’s INS Visakhapatnam warship successfully test-fired the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile on Tuesday. The missile is said to “precisely” hit the intended target, according to the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO).

Announcing it, DRDO tweeted, “Advanced sea to sea variant of BrahMos Supersonic Cruise missile was tested from INS Visakhapatnam today. Missile hit the designated target ship precisely.@indiannavy@BrahMosMissile#SashaktBharat#AtmaNirbharBharat.”

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh praising the officials involved said that the missile’s successful launch demonstrated the Indian Navy’s “mission preparedness.”

“The robustness of @indiannavy mission readiness is reconfirmed today after successful launch of the advanced version of BrahMos Missile from INS Vishakhapatnam today. I congratulate the wonderful team work of @indiannavy @DRDO_India & @BrahMosMissile,” Singh tweeted.

BrahMos Aerospace is an Indian-Russian joint venture. The aerospace manufacturer built the supersonic cruise missile that can be launched from submarines, ships, planes, or ground platforms. The BrahMos missile travels at 2.8 Mach, or nearly three times the speed of sound.
