Digital Desk: The Indian Medical Council has imposed a Rs 1 crore fine on Lakhimpur Medical College in Assam due to severe mismanagement.

In a strongly worded letter to the principal, the Council highlighted several critical issues, including lack of electricity during surgeries, insufficient staffing, and frequent absences of key personnel.

The letter warned of further actions if the college does not settle its pending dues and debts promptly.

This move follows the National Medical Commission's (NMC) 2023 mandate, which introduced a Rs 1 crore penalty for medical colleges failing to meet course norms, statutory provisions, regulations, and minimum standards set by the regulator.

The Council's detailed letter underscores the alarming conditions at Lakhimpur Medical College, emphasizing the need for immediate corrective measures.
