Digital Desk: Rohan Bopanna aged now 43 years, set a world record by becoming the oldest player to reach a Grand Slam final in the open era while playing at Louis Armstrong Stadium. He almost eclipsed Canadian Daniel Nestor, who had reached a Grand Slam final at the age of 43 years and four months.
India's tennis sensation Rohan Bopanna continued his recent streak of success by reaching the US Open men's doubles final with his Australian partner Matthew Ebden. In a 1 hour 34 minute semifinal match, the Indo-Aussie combination defeated Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut of France 7-6 (3), 6-2.
The first set was a close one, but the duo held their nerve in the tie-break to advance to the second set with a lead. From then on, the Indo-Aussie duo fully dominated, while the French duo appeared clueless and only went through the motions.
Meanwhile, Bopanna has reached the US Open men's doubles final for the second time in 13 years. In 2010, he reached the finals partnering Pakistan's Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi. So far, the veteran has only one Grand Slam championship to his name: a French Open mixed doubles title with Gabriela Dabrowski in 2017.
Bopanna has won 24 titles and has a win-loss record of 482-359 (57.3%) in ATP World Tour and Grand Slam main-draw matches, as well as in the Davis Cup.
In the final of the US Open 2023, Bopanna and Ebden will meet the third-seeded team of Andy Ram/Joe Salisbury. If he wins, it will be his first men's doubles Grand Slam trophy, and he will become the country's third to accomplish so.
