Patna: India’s first transgender constable Rachit Raj faced an unfortunate fate yesterday. The constable died yesterday evening while crossing a railway track in Bihar’s Kaimur district.

Eyewitnesses’ reports suggest that Rachit was crossing the railway line when a superfast train hit him and one girl identified as Rupa Kumari, killing both on the spot.

Rachit was earlier known as Rachana Kumari. He had filed an affidavit in the court to become a transgender. He revealed his identity under the transgender protection act 2019.

Rachit had qualified for the post of constable at the age of 20 after passing the class 12 examination in 2018.

His passing away has been deeply mourned by the police force as well as the LGBTQA+ community.
