Digital Desk: Mayank Agarwal was named Punjab Kings' new captain for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season on Monday. Mayank was one of two players retained by Punjab Kings ahead of the big auction for the IPL 2022 season. The right-handed batsman was retained for Rs 12 crores after releasing former captain KL Rahul, who is now the captain of Lucknow Super Giants in the 10-team season, which is expected to begin in the last week of March. Anil Kumble, head coach of the Punjab Kings, stated, "Mayank has been a key member of the team since 2018 and has spent the previous two years in the leadership group. We selected a new roster at the last auction that has both intriguing youthful talent and exceptional seasoned players. With Mayank at the lead, we want to lay a solid basis for the future. He is dedicated, energetic, and a team player who possesses all of the qualities necessary in a leader. I am excited to work with him as captain and am confident that he can lead this team to victory." "I have been at Punjab Kings since 2018 and I take a lot of satisfaction in representing this excellent unit. I am ecstatic to be given the responsibility of leading the team. I accept this duty with the utmost sincerity, but I also believe that the potential we have in the Punjab Kings roster this season will make my job simpler." he added. "We have some experienced players in our ranks, as well as a slew of talented youngsters eager to seize the moment and run with it. We've always gone into the game aiming to win the title, and as a squad, we'll work hard to achieve our goal of winning our first IPL trophy. I am grateful to the team management for entrusting me with this new duty as the side's leader. I'm excited about the new season and the new difficulties it will bring." Kumble said.
