Digital Desk: The Indian Premier League (IPL) teams Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals arrived today (April 3, 2023) in Guwahati ahead of their match on April 5 at the ACA Barsapara Stadium, marking the first-ever IPL match to be hosted in the city. Notably, Barsapara Stadium will be the home ground for the Rajasthan Royals for two IPL matches.

Reportedly, the Punjab Kings landed in Guwahati via a special flight numbered G8-151 from Delhi to the Borjhar airport. Meanwhile, the Rajasthan Royals' on flight SG-9321, arrived from Hyderabad. Both teams headed straight to their respective hotels, with the Punjab Kings staying at the Vivanta Hotel in Khanapara, and the Rajasthan Royals at the Radisson Blu Hotel along the National Highway.

According to the IPL schedule released on February 17, Guwahati was selected as one of the venues to host two matches, enabling cricket lovers in the northeastern city to experience IPL matches for the first time. The first match between the Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings will take place on April 5 at 7.30 pm, while the second match between the Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals will take place on April 8 at 3.30 p.m.

It is worth noting that the Rajasthan Royals have an agreement with the Assam Cricket Association. Speaking about the occasion, ACA President Taranga Gogoi expressed his excitement, stating that the association had always wanted to host an IPL match in Guwahati, and had requested that the Rajasthan Royals consider Guwahati as their home ground. A team was sent to inspect the ground and facilities, following which the decision was made to hold two IPL matches in the city.
