Digital Desk: Iran on Tuesday announced a visa-waiver programme for Indian tourists arriving by air, with a maximum stay of 15 days. According to the Iranian embassy, Indian nationals can now enter the country without a visa as of February 4th, subject to four requirements.
A new visa-free program for India and 32 other nations—including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, and Malaysia—was approved by Iran in December.
According to the Iranian interpretation, those with regular passports would be able to enter the nation once every six months without a visa, for a maximum of 15 days.
"It is important to note that the 15 days cannot be extended," it continued.
"The visa abolition only applies to individuals entering the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran for tourism purposes," added the statement.
It said Indians wanting to stay for a longer period or make multiple entries within six months or requiring other types of visas must obtain necessary visas from Iranian missions in India. "The visa abolition outlined in this approval specifically applies to Indian nationals who enter the country just through the air border," it said.
During his visit to Iran last month, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had extensive discussions on a variety of bilateral and regional matters with his Iranian counterpart, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.
