Digital Desk: In a significant escalation of tensions, Iran launched missile strikes on southern Israel on 21st March , with a massive fireball seen hurtling through the sky before impacting the cities of Dimona and Arad. The attack is believed to be in retaliation for Israel’s earlier targeting of Iran’s Natanz nuclear enrichment facility.

The strikes caused widespread damage, with several buildings reduced to rubble. Dimona, located barely 20 kilometres from Israel’s main nuclear research centre, has drawn particular concern due to its strategic importance.

Residents were inside their homes when the missiles struck, with visuals showing doors and window frames blown off and personal belongings scattered due to the impact. First responders reported that 84 people were injured in Arad, including 10 in serious condition, while 33 others were wounded in Dimona. Among the injured in Dimona were a 10-year-old boy, who suffered serious shrapnel injuries, and a 40-year-old woman.

Benjamin Netanyahu stated that additional emergency crews were being deployed to the affected areas and described the situation as a “very difficult evening.” He also vowed to continue strikes against Iran.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) acknowledged reports of the incident but confirmed that there were no indications of damage to the Negev nuclear research centre.
