Digital Desk: In the midst of the escalating Israel-Hamas conflict, the Congress Working Committee (CWC) has reaffirmed its unwavering support for the rights of the Palestinian people. In a resolution passed during a four-hour meeting on Monday, the CWC called for an immediate ceasefire and urged negotiations to address all outstanding issues fueling the conflict.

With over a thousand casualties reported in the last two days, the CWC expressed profound dismay and anguish at the ongoing war in the Middle East. The resolution underscored the Congress's commitment to upholding the rights of the Palestinian people, including their right to land, self-government, and the pursuit of a dignified life.

The CWC's stance comes just one day after the Congress denounced the attacks on Israel, emphasizing that violence in any form cannot serve as a solution and must cease immediately.

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh stated that his party has consistently advocated for the legitimate aspirations of both the Palestinian and Israeli people. He stressed that dialogue and negotiations are essential to fulfill the aspirations of the Palestinian people while safeguarding the national security interests of Israel.

Jairam Ramesh stated, "The Indian National Congress condemns the brutal attacks on the people of Israel." He reiterated the party's belief that violence is not a viable solution and called for an end to hostilities.

The conflict erupted when Hamas, the ruling authority in the Gaza Strip, launched a surprise and unprecedented attack on southern Israel. The impact has been devastating, with Israel experiencing its deadliest day in over five decades, resulting in at least 700 fatalities and over 2,100 injuries.

The Gaza Strip has not been spared from the violence, with nearly 500 reported deaths and over 2,000 individuals wounded in Israel's counterattack, according to media reports.

As the international community watches with increasing concern, the Congress Working Committee's resolution highlights the urgent need for a ceasefire and a negotiated settlement to bring an end to this devastating conflict. The Congress's position seeks to balance support for Palestinian rights with a commitment to the security of Israel, underscoring the importance of diplomacy and dialogue in resolving the deep-seated issues at the heart of this ongoing crisis.
