Chandigarh: Slamming Navjot Singh Sidhu's decision to resign from Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) Chief post, former Punjab Chief Sunil Jakhar said Sidhu's resignation from the post was 'a breach of trust'.

Calling Sidhu "Outgoing," Jakhar tweeted, "It's just not cricket ! What stands compromised in this entire 'episode' is the faith reposed in the (outgoing ?) PCC President by the Congress Leadership. No amount of grand standing can justify this breach of trust placing his benefactors in a peculiar predicament."

Sunil Jakhar's comments came hours after Navjot Singh Sidhu resigned as the Punjab Congress chief on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, while resigning from PPCC chief post, Sidhu wrote in his letter to Congress President Sonia Gandhi, "The collapse of a man's character stems from the compromise corner, I can never compromise on Punjab's future and the agenda for the welfare of Punjab. Therefore, I hereby resign as the President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Commi. Will continue to serve the Congress."

Sidhu, a cricketer turned politician, took over as the Punjab Congress Chief from Jakhar on July 18, 2021, after a month of bitter tussling within the party's state unit.

Moreover, criticizing Sidhu, former Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh stated, "Sidhu is not a stable man."

"I told you so, he is not a stable man and not fit for the border state of Punjab." the former CM tweeted.

Notably, the ongoing political crises within the Congress in Punjab have put the party into fresh stress just a month before the Punjab assembly election.
