CM Sarma requested that the committee investigate the events that led to the disaster and the students' premature deaths.

Digital Desk: In light of the tragic road accident in Jalukbari that claimed the lives of seven students from Assam Engineering College, Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma asked on Thursday that the Education Department launch a high-level investigation.

CM Sarma requested that the committee investigate the events that led to the disaster and the students' premature deaths.

It should be emphasised that the Principal of AEC, Jalukbari, and the Superintendent of the pertinent dormitory to which the unfortunate students belonged would be requested to take leave till the investigation is finished and the report is reviewed by the government.

In addition, the Chief Minister asked the Education Department to form a committee to examine the current college and university election system and make recommendations regarding whether it needs to be revised in light of the frequent clashes that occur between student groups before and after elections.

The Chief Minister also directed the Education Department to form a new committee to improve discipline, rules, and regulations in educational institution hostels to prevent the recurrence of any occurrence that may harm the student community's life. The committee will also look into the severe enforcement of the in and out times for hostels, the complete prohibition of alcohol and other drugs in hostel campuses and hostels, and the prohibition of extended stays for former boarders of hostels. The group will also suggest strategies for fostering a positive sense of community inside the hostels.
