Annu Rani, who had the best throw of 61.12 metres, placed seventh in the women's javelin throw final.


Digital Desk: Annu Rani finishes seventh in the World Athletics Women's Javelin Final. Annu, India's national record holder, finished eighth in the final women's javelin throw with a best throw of 61.12m, just two metres short of her personal best of 63.82m on Day 8 of the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon on Saturday.


Australia's Kelsey-Lee Barber won gold with a tremendous throw of 66.91m, while Kara Winger took silver with a best throw of 64.05m in her final attempt, and Japan's Haruka Kitagichi took bronze with a final throw of 63.27m.


Rani's series lasted 56.18 minutes, 61.12 minutes, 59.27 minutes, 58.14 minutes, 59.98 minutes, and 58.70 minutes. Her season and personal best is 63.82m.


With a throw of 59.60m, the national record holder qualified for the final as the eighth best in the qualification round.


Shiying Liu of China finished fourth with the best performance of 63.25m.


Rani made her third appearance in the showcase. In the previous competition in 2019, she finished eighth in the finals with a best throw of 61.12m. After coming 10th in her qualification group, she could not qualify for the finals in London in 2017.


Annu set a new national record with a throw of 63.82m while winning gold at the Indian Open Javelin Throw Competition in Jamshedpur in May.
