Digital Desk: During a clash between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Rajouri district on Wednesday, three people were injured and two Army officers and two jawans died, according to authorities.

As more forces were sent in to kill the two terrorists who had been detained in the Dharmsal neighbourhood of Bajimaal after a cordon-and-search operation, a fierce gunfight persisted in the area.

Along with other authorities who were injured, the dead were two captains and two havildars. The Army's Command Hospital in Udhampur has received the injured parties from the encounter.

The two terrorists who are stuck in Bajimaal, who are thought to be foreign nationals, have reportedly been travelling around the region since Sunday and have even sought sanctuary in a house of worship, according to officials.

Locals told the news agency PTI that since Sunday, there has been a search and cordon in place to find potential terrorists. Villagers were told to stay indoors throughout the operation, and kids skipped school.

Over the last eighteen months, there has been a spike in terrorist events in the border districts of Rajouri and Poonch. Remarkably, on November 17, a terrorist was slain in a confrontation in Rajouri's Guller Behrote neighbourhood.

Similarly, on August 7, in the Poonch neighbourhood of Degwar, the Army foiled an infiltration attempt, leading to the death of a terrorist. Furthermore, on May 5, five Army personnel were killed in an anti-terror operation in Rajouri district's Kesari hills.
