Digital Desk: Justice DY Chandrachud took oath as the country's 50th Chief Justice of India (CJI) on Wednesday, after serving as a Supreme Court judge for more than six years. He will serve as the Chief Justice of India for two years.

Justice D.Y. Chandrachud Takes Oath as CJI

His father was former CJI YV Chandrachud. In the country's judicial history, Justice Chandrachud and his father are the only father-son duo to have reached the position of CJI.

Over the years, Justice Chandrachud, who will preside over the Supreme Court during pivotal events in the future, has been referred to as "the liberals' favourite and a progressive judge" by some.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated DY Chandrachud on his appointment as the next Chief Justice of India.

After taking the oath, Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.
