Digital Desk: Train operations in the Lumding–Badarpur hill section were disrupted on Monday morning after the Kanchanjunga Express struck a herd of buffaloes inside a tunnel near New Haflong.


The incident took place at approximately 11:55 AM on April 6 within Tunnel No. 16, located near the New Haflong Hill Station (NHGJ).


According to railway sources, the collision left three buffaloes injured, while eight others were killed after becoming trapped beneath the engine and along the tracks.


Upon receiving the report, personnel from the railway engineering department and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) were dispatched to the site.


To clear the obstruction, the train was reversed back to New Haflong station, allowing staff to remove the animals from the tracks.


Railway officials confirmed that normal train movement resumed shortly after the site was cleared and safety checks were completed.
