Digital Desk: In a major success for Guwahati police, two notorious dacoits from Bihar were arrested in the city. The duo was allegedly planning a major robbery in the city ahead of the Assembly elections.
Acting swiftly, a team led by West Guwahati ADCP Birinchi Bora, along with Jalukbari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mrityunjay Das, apprehended the two criminals near Kamakhya Railway Station.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Vikas Kumar Singh and Murari Kumar Singh, both from Begusarai district of Bihar.
According to police sources, several serious cases are registered against them in Bihar, including Mufassil Police Station Case No. 653/2023, Darbhanga Police Station Case No. 72/26 and Begusarai Town Police Station Case No. 160/26.
The accused were previously involved in an Axis Bank robbery and a major jewellery shop heist. They are also alleged to have shot and injured a volleyball player.
Police officials stated that, based on inputs from Bihar Police, the duo are among the most dangerous criminals in the state. They had reportedly prepared a blueprint to rob a major jewellery store in Guwahati.
A team from Bihar Police is expected to arrive in Guwahati tomorrow, and the accused will be handed over to them for further investigation.
The prompt action by Assam Police ahead of the elections has brought a sense of relief among the residents of the city.
