Soon after the takeover, the self-described free speech absolutist ousted key employees, including CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal, and legal affairs and policy chief Vijaya Gadde, causing social media to explode with outrage.

Notably, Musk's acquisition comes at a time when India is preparing to change IT legislation to allow for the establishment of grievance appellate committees that would be able to review content moderation decisions made by social media companies such as Twitter and Meta.
