Digital Desk: With a winning margin of more than 130 seats in Karnataka Assembly elections, Congress has created a considerable lead over the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party. The Janata Dal (Secular) leads by more than 20 seats.

The poll results are being viewed as a possible indicator of the general elections in 2024. Both the Congress and the BJP are engaged in a high-stakes conflict. Except for Himachal Pradesh, the Congress had not won a single state election since the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. And Karnataka was the BJP's only stronghold in the southern states.

As votes were recorded on May 13 for an election widely considered as an important test for both parties ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, the Congress appeared to be on course to seize power from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
