Digital Desk: Kaziranga National Park has extended its jeep safari operations until May 29, pushing back the initial closure date of May 25 in response to high tourist demand.
According to departmental sources, the upcoming suspension will apply to the Kohora, Agaratoli, Bagori, and Burhapahar ranges as the monsoon season approaches.
While Divisional Forest Officer Arun Vignesh had previously announced the conclusion of the safari season, a subsequent notification confirmed the brief extension.
Following May 29, jeep safaris will remain officially closed for the remainder of the season until further notice.
The decision to halt operations is primarily driven by the onset of monsoon rains, which render the park's routes muddy and impassable for vehicles.
Furthermore, this period is a critical time for wildlife breeding and mating.
As rising water levels submerge the grasslands, animals frequently migrate to higher ground near safari routes, where human presence can cause significant disturbance.
This suspension follows the earlier closure of elephant safaris, marking the full transition into the park's seasonal conservation period to ensure the safety and well-being of its wildlife.
