Heavy rain in Kerala triggered landslides in Idukki and Kottayam districts. Around five people have been killed in rain-flood incidents. According to the reports presented by weather telecast, heavy rain will continue to pour in the area till today.

There is an orange alert in six districts, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad. Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur and Palakkad districts have been put on red alert.

The state government has asked the Army, Navy and Air Force to assist the civil administration to handle the circumstances. The National Disaster Response Force has decided to extend 11 teams for help.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had on Saturday endured a high-level meeting to strengthen the rescue efforts. He said that all means would be utilized to relocate people stranded in areas submerged due to heavy rains.

“The situation is very severe in some sections of the state. We will do everything possible to protect lives. We have sought help from the army, navy and air force. Relief posts-old have been fastened up in the regions,” stated Kerala chief minister in a statement.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the low-pressure region over the southeastern Arabian Sea and joining Kerala has shifted less marked.

Mi-17 and Sarang helicopters are on standby, and all stations under Southern Air Command are on high alarm.
