Guwahati: Renaming procedure is done. Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport will now be known as Adani International Airport. The Adani Group takes over the Guwahati Airport, named after Assam’s first Chief Minister Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi.

This shameful act by the BJP-led central government has insulted the first Chief Minister of Assam and the people of its state.

As per the official, the Adani group started its observation period on Monday at the Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport as part of its order to develop and modernize the northeast main Airport.”

An Airport Authority of India official said, “A team of nine members of the Adani Airport Holding Ltd (AAHL) led by Chief Airport Officer Utpal Baruah, formally started its observation period and is likely to take charge in October.”

As per the agreement with the Adani group with the central government, the existing AAI personnel will support the company for three years only.

Moreover, land near the Airport has also been given to the Adani group by the government on a lease basis for 50 years to develop aviation-related business and other services.

In 2018, The central government leased six AAI airports to Adani Group, including Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Guwahati, Lucknow, Thiruvananthapuram, and Mangaluru, for developmental works.
