Digital Desk: Guwahati witnessed intense lightning and heavy rain in the early hours of August 17, between 3:30 and 4:00 AM. The waterlogging after the sudden rain disturbed the normal life in many sectors of the city. Areas such as Sreenagar, Anil Nagar, Hatigaon, Sijubari, and Wireless were completely inundated, causing major inconvenience to residents and disrupting early morning traffic.


In the meantime, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Guwahati has issued a forecast that said moderate rainfall is likely to occur along with thunderstorms and lightning in many of the districts, including Barpeta, Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Goalpara, Golaghat, Jorhat, Kamrup, Kamrup (Metro), Karbi Anglong, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sonitpur, and Udalguri, in the next three hours.


Residents are advised to remain cautious, especially in low-lying areas prone to flooding. Authorities are monitoring the situation and working to drain excess water from affected regions.
