The couple shared three children and appeared deeply happy, as reflected in recent wedding photos and Jota’s final Instagram post
Digital Desk: Today, Liverpool forward Diogo Jota has died at the age of 28 following a tragic car crash in northern Spain, just two weeks after his wedding. The Portuguese footballer had been driving a convertible Lamborghini in Zamora province of Spain on the A-52 route near Cernadilla, when the car allegedly blew a tyre during an overtaking. The vehicle veered off the road, flipped over, and burst into flames.
At the time of the accident, his brother, André Silva, 26, also a professional footballer who played in FC Penafiel in Portugal, was also in the vehicle. The crash occurred in the early hours of Thursday morning, and both brothers lost their lives.
Emergency services were quickly dispatched after the Castilla y León 1-1-2 operations center received multiple calls reporting the accident and a vehicle on fire at Km. 65, of the A-52, and emergency services rapidly responded. It was responded to by the Zamora Traffic Police,
Provincial Fire Brigade and responders in the medical team, which comprised of the Mombuey Health Center. It was unfortunate as both brothers died at the scene of the accident.
The highway on which the accident occurred is commonly used by commuters who travel to Santander or Bilbao (Spanish ports) or the French frontier when their destination is in the north of Portugal.
The fatal accident comes just weeks after Jota married his longtime partner Rute Cardoso in Porto on June 22. The two had three beautiful children and seemed very happy together as it has been shown in some of their most recent wedding pictures and in the last photo Jota posted on Instagram in which he declared himself to be the happiest man in the world after being chosen as her husband.
News of the accident has sent shockwaves through the football community and among fans worldwide, as tributes pour in for the talented striker and his brother whose lives were tragically cut short
