Kumar emphasised the importance of informed decision-making, stating that voters have the right to access such information

Digital Desk: Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar launched the 'Know Your Candidate' (KYC) mobile app, available on Android and iOS. This app aims to empower voters by providing crucial insights into candidates' criminal backgrounds, assets, and liabilities within their constituencies.

Kumar emphasised the importance of informed decision-making, stating that voters have the right to access such information. The app enables voters to independently verify candidates' backgrounds and financial standings. Candidates with criminal records are required to disclose this information, which will be published in newspapers and broadcast on television three times.

Political parties nominating such candidates must justify their selection. The KYC app allows voters to search for candidates by name and provides details on criminal records, case statuses, and the nature of offences.

With the Lok Sabha elections set to occur in seven phases starting on April 19 and vote counting on June 4, the app serves as a valuable tool for voters to make informed choices. It aims to promote transparency and accountability in the electoral process, ensuring that voters have access to essential information about the candidates vying for their representation in the Lok Sabha.

The app currently has no data; however, once the nominations start, the app will be useful as the data is likely to be uploaded after receiving the affidavits submitted by candidates. You can always check the records of previously nominated candidates on the MYNETA.INFO website.
