Digital Desk: Voting in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly election is underway, and will decide the fate of 2,533 candidates across 230 seats, which began on Friday. 


The election to decide the destiny of political heavyweights such as Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and his predecessor and challenger Kamal Nath is planned to take place from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. in all assembly segments, with the exception of Naxalite-affected districts, where voting will take place from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. 


In Madhya Pradesh, where polling for the 230-member parliament started in the morning on Friday, a total of 11.65% of voters exercised their right to vote until 9 A.M in the morning. 


All 230 of the state's constituencies—47 designated for ST and 35 for the SC—saw the start of voting at 7 a.m., according to an official.


Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the chief minister and BJP candidate from Budhni, together with his spouse Sadhna Singh, cast votes at Sehore.

Kamal Nath, the head of the State Congress and the party's candidate from Chhindwara, casts his vote at a polling place in his constituency.



Union minister Prahlad Patel cast his vote in Narsinghpur, the Assembly seat from which he is running in the elections.


Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya voiced confidence in the formation of a double-engine government in the state and predicted that the party will win more than 150 seats on Friday when voting for Madhya Pradesh assembly seats commenced.


On December 3, the votes will be counted, and the results will be announced. The election is widely regarded as a two-way fight between the incumbent BJP and the opposition Congress.
