Mumbai: Reacting to the recent drug bust case in his state, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra Uddhav Thackeray has lashed out at the anti drug central law enforcement Narcotic Control Bureau (NCB). He has condemned some of the recent actions taken by the agency and accused them of purposefully chasing after celebrities to grab attention from the media.

Thackeray stated this during his speech at a virtual launch event of the state of the art Forensic lab in Maharashtra’s Pune and Nagpur.

He said that the Mumbai Police have also been putting a lot of effort to end drug menace in the state. Referring to a recent seizure of heroin worth INR 25 crore a few days back by the state police department, Thackeray said that the incident did not get enough publicity because it involved ‘heroin’ and not a ‘heroine’.

"The Mumbai and Maharashtra Police seized heroin worth Rs 25 crores four days ago, but they caught 'heroin', not a 'heroine'. Hence, they did not get enough publicity," he said.

Moreover, he also said that "these days there is only one talk and that is drugs, drugs and drugs”.

"I had spoken about this during my Dussehra rally that there is an image being created that all the drugs in the world are produced in Maharashtra, and only one specific team can catch them. But it is not like that," Thackeray added.

CM Uddhav Thackeray has often been vocal against the NCB and other central government agencies. Earlier, he had said that the central agency has been trying to generate a bad impression for the state of Maharashtra as a hub of drug supply and consumption.
