Digital Desk: On 24th March, showcasing the growing efficiency of India’s inland waterways, a high-value consignment of nearly 1,500 metric tonnes has been successfully transported from Kolkata to Pandu Port via the Indo-Bangladesh Protocol route.


The shipment included granulated blast furnace slag and TMT bars, dispatched by Tata Steel Limited for Larsen & Toubro Limited in Guwahati. The consignment comprised a total of 23,980 bags weighing approximately 1,199 metric tonnes, along with an additional 300 metric tonnes of TMT bars.


The cargo was transported using tug MV Trishul and barges DB Dikshu and DB Ajay, highlighting the logistical strength and reliability of inland water transport systems.


This successful movement underscores the increasing adoption of inland waterways for bulk cargo transportation, improving efficiency while strengthening regional connectivity. The Inland Waterways Authority of India has played a crucial role in facilitating such seamless operations, further promoting sustainable and cost-effective transport solutions.
