  • Man alleges harassment by the Assam police over his suspected links to the ULFA-I

Digital Desk: A man has alleged harassment by the Assam police over his suspected links to the United Liberation Front of Assam - Independent (ULFA-I).

On September 15, 2024, Panbazar police arrested Asim Adhikari, suspecting his involvement with ULFA (I).

This followed the planting of bombs by ULFA (I) in various parts of the state on August 15, 2024.

Alongside Asim, another individual, James Rongpi, was also arrested on suspicion of being connected to the bombings.

After spending nearly three months in jail, Asim has made serious allegations against the police.

He claims he was arrested without any concrete evidence and was detained at the police station without being provided food and water.

During his time in custody, Asim alleges that he was subjected to both mental and physical harassment by the police.

In a distressing statement, Asim Adhikari expressed that if such harassment continues, he might be driven to take his own life.

He has called upon Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to conduct a thorough investigation into the entire incident.
