Digital Desk: A man lost Rs 4.8 lakh in yet another case of cyber fraud as he was requesting reimbursement for his cancelled airline tickets. An official stated on Wednesday that the man from Thane, Maharashtra, used Google to look up the airline's contact information to ask for a refund for his cancelled trip to Nairobi.

The man said in his police report that he and his friend had purchased round-trip tickets to the capital city of Kenya, Nairobi, to travel to Mombasa. He paid Rs. 1.46 lakh for the tickets, which were scheduled for April 29 and May 5.

But once his plans changed, he decided to cancel the tickets and request refunds, according to the official. On April 11, he completed a form for a refund on the airline's website. The official claimed that after the complaint was unable to reach the airline's hotline, he performed a Google search and found what he believed to be the airline's contact information.

According to the official, when he called the number, he was informed that the airline's technical team would get in touch with him and arrange a refund. The complainant was then approached by a man who informed him that he was entitled to a return of Rs. 1.28 lakh.

According to the official, the suspect obtained full access to the complainant's phone after asking him to download an app and then took Rs 4.8 lakh from his accounts. The Chitalsar police opened a case under the IT Act on Tuesday in response to the man's complaint. The official stated that an investigation is ongoing and noted that no one has been taken into custody as of yet.
