Digital Desk: Around 11 civilians were reportedly injured, while two others died from bullet injuries in Saikul, Kangpokpi district in Manipur, on May 3.

On the night of May 3, the situation turned worse after clashes broke out in several parts of Manipur's hill districts during the ongoing ATSUM's (All Tribal Students' Union, Manipur) solidarity march protesting against the Meitei's demand for inclusion in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) list.

Reportedly, five of the injured civilians were admitted to hospitals with bullet wounds, and two of them died due to their injuries. 

While the situation in Manipur remains tense, additional paramilitary forces have been called in to help bring the situation under control.

The Manipur state police and the army stepped in to calm down the tense situation in the state after communal tensions erupted on May 3 following clashes in the Churachandpur district.

The army is organizing flag marches in violent regions as tribal groups protest over a court ruling granting Meitei community Scheduled Tribe status.

Meanwhile, in response to the turmoil in Manipur, chief minister N Biren Singh today urged to all sections of the Manipur population to maintain peace and communal harmony. He also added that vandalism and arson have been reported from the state's districts of Imphal, Bishnupur, and Moreh, among others.
