The yatra is scheduled to be inaugurated by Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge...

Digital Desk: The Manipur government denied 'ground permission' for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's 'Bharat Nyay Yatra’ at Hatta Kangjeibung in Imphal East district on Wednesday. The yatra was scheduled to commence on January 14.

Keisham Megachandra, president of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, deems it an unfortunate violation of democratic rights.

The yatra, scheduled to be inaugurated by Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge, aimed to gather chief ministers of Congress-ruled states and top party leaders.

The refusal is situated against Manipur's volatile law and order backdrop, stemming from ethnic violence in May 2023, leaving over 180 dead.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh cited the situation's "active consideration," yet recent clashes amplify security concerns.

The denial halts the politically significant Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, raising questions about the nexus between politics and security in the region as India heads towards the general election on March 20.
