Digital Desk: At the Darbar Hall of the Chief Minister's secretariat in Imphal today, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh flagged off 12 GPS-enabled vehicles for Highway Patrol, marking a significant step toward enhancing security along Manipur's roads and border areas.
The 12 patrol cars will drive down the highways in Tamenglong, Noney, Kangpokpi, Senapati, and Tengnoupal, among other districts. The state currently has 22 highway patrol vehicles that can use GPS. Ten of them had their initial launches in May and June.
Chief Minister Biren Singh stated in a speech at the event that the police cars will aid in maintaining a close vigil along the routes. The action, he continued, will lessen the number of crimes and extortions performed by criminals against regular people and truck drivers.
The Chief Minister further announced that after receiving sanction from the Union Home Ministry, work has begun on building 34 police outposts-old along the Indo-Myanmar border, from Behiang in Churachandpur to Jessami in Ukhrul district.
Additionally, he said that a greater police presence in border regions will help to reduce illegal immigration and trafficking.
