  • Manipur police apprehended two individuals and seized approximately 45 kg of suspected opium during a significant drug interdiction operation in Senapati district on August 20

Senapati District Police in Manipur successfully intercepted a major drug consignment on August 20, leading to the arrest of two individuals and the seizure of approximately 45 kilograms of suspected opium. The operation, conducted at Khongnem Thana village, also resulted in the recovery of a vehicle and a substantial amount of cash, highlighting persistent challenges in the region's fight against narcotics.

Officials confirmed that the arrests were made during a routine frisking and checking operation conducted by the police force. The apprehended suspects have been identified as Sanesh Limbu, 25, and Sachin Thapa, 20, both residents of Irang Part-1, Lamchok, an area falling under the jurisdiction of Kangpokpi Police Station. Their identification points to potential local links in the trafficking network.

During the meticulous operation, law enforcement personnel discovered a total of 46 packets containing the suspected opium, meticulously concealed. In addition to the significant haul of narcotics, a Mahindra Thar Roxx four-wheeler, believed to have been used for transporting the contraband, and ten thousand rupees in cash were also confiscated from their possession. The combined street value of the seized drugs is estimated to be considerable in the illicit market.

The two individuals are currently in police custody as authorities initiate further legal proceedings and continue their thorough investigation into the origins, distribution channels, and intended destination of the seized contraband. This successful interdiction underscores the ongoing vigilance and dedicated efforts by security forces across Manipur and the wider Northeast region to curb the pervasive illicit drug trade that continues to pose a significant threat to public health and security.
