Guwahati, August 21: A prominent ice-cream factory in Guwahati has come under intense scrutiny following alarming revelations of alleged severe hygiene and food safety violations. The disturbing findings at Nancy Icecream Factory in Jyotikuchi have sparked widespread concern regarding the quality and safety of a popular treat, especially among children.
The alleged unhygienic conditions were brought to light by a team from the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), led by Sukumar Barman. During their inspection, the team reportedly discovered the factory allegedly utilising dirty, drain-like water in the preparation of ice-creams. Furthermore, the containers used for manufacturing were found in an appalling state, with their interiors described as resembling a drain, visibly covered in algae and moss.
The AJYCP team reportedly confronted both the factory workers and the owner regarding the highly unsanitary environment in which the ice-creams were being produced. These revelations are particularly troubling as ice-creams are a summer favourite, and public health officials have consistently stressed the importance of stringent food safety standards.
At a time when governments are prioritising food safety and hygiene, the alleged conditions at this manufacturing unit present a stark contrast, prompting urgent calls for regulatory bodies to conduct thorough investigations and ensure compliance to safeguard consumer health.
