Digital Desk: The Manipur government has announced the reopening of all schools in the state, effective from October 6, 2023. This decision comes after a series of closures due to the prevailing situation, including protests and security concerns.

A notification issued by the government stated, "All State Government/ State Government Aided/Private Unaided Schools in Manipur will re-open from 6th October, 2023. This is issued with the approval of the Government, Department of Education(S) conveyed in consultation with the Home Department Vide Letter No. MISCS/15/2023-EDN(5)-EDN(5) dated the 5th October, 2023."

The Directorate of Education-Schools in Manipur had previously ordered the closure of all state government, state government-aided, and private unaided schools for a period of three days, starting from September 27, 2023, until September 29, 2023. This closure was further extended until October 5, 2023.

The decision to close schools initially stemmed from fresh protests that erupted in the state capital after photographs of two missing students, Luwangbi Linthoingambi Hijam (17) of Tera and Phijam Hemanjit (20) of Takyel, surfaced on social media on September 25, 2023. Four individuals were arrested on Sunday by a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)-led security forces team in connection with the tragic killing of these two students.

The reopening of schools is seen as a positive step toward restoring normalcy in the state and ensuring the continuity of education for the students of Manipur.
