Manipur's state capital has been shaken by violent student protests over the deaths of the two students...

Digital Desk: Tensions in Manipur, which has been plagued by violence, remained high as new rounds of fights between protesters and police personnel emerged. In the Imphal valley, protests were held as locals demanded swift justice for the murders of two students who were allegedly Meitei people.

Since Tuesday, Manipur's state capital has been shaken by violent student protests over the deaths of the two students.

Earlier today, a large group of protesters gathered in Imphal East's Heinging area to march toward CM Biren Singh's home. Security personnel halted the citizens, which resulted in clashes between the two sides.

Security personnel thwarted an angry mob's attempt to attack the ancestral home of Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh, according to the police.

"The chief minister's ancestral home in Imphal's Heingang neighborhood was the target of an attempted attack. Around 100 meters from the residence, the mob was stopped by security officers," a police official added.

Despite being heavily secured, no one now lives there, the officer claimed.
