Digital Desk: On August 7, a team from the Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum (ITLF) will meet with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi to discuss the location of 35 Kukis' final resting places.

In connection with Public Interest Litigation (PIL) No. 33 of 2023 (International Meeteis Forum v. State of Manipur & ors), the Manipur High Court issued an order on August 3 instructing the State and Central Governments, law enforcement organisations, and the general public to maintain the disputed land's pre-action status quo. This new development follows that order.

However, the court has also urged the authorities to take decisive action to maintain peace and order around the disputed property.

The court has also directed the Central and State Governments, as well as respondents 11 and 12, and any aggrieved parties, to engage in efforts to seek an amicable settlement.

Private respondents and representatives of the Kuki-Zo community have been allowed one week to apply for land allotment for burial purposes.
